Studien zur Phänomenologie und praktischen Philosophie

Band 2
Morin, Marie-Eve
Jenseits der brüderlichen Gemeinschaft.
Das Gespräch zwischen Jacques Derrida und Jean-Luc Nancy.

2006. 239. S. - 170 x 240 mm. Kartoniert

Jean-Luc Nancy and Jacques Derrida have been often taken to be philosophical brethren, and yet, it is precisely the concept of fraternity that they have sparred over in their separate political projects of the last two decades. While Derrida claims that Nancy’s concept of community still operates through the genealogical category of fraternity, Nancy answers that his concept has already interrupted the genealogical bonds. A series of questions arises out of this exchange: Why is Derrida allergic to Nancy’s use of the word community? Does his reaction prevent him from recognizing the radicality of Nancy’s thinking? Is Nancy able to answer Derrida’s concerns? And can there be a community without fraternity? By working through Nancy’s interruption of the fraternal community and Derrida’s critique of Nancy's work, the author seeks to rethink the terms of the debates around community and communitarianism too often haunted, as Derrida and Nancy agree, with a politics of identity and conformity. Attuned to the ever pressing need of the political to deal with the singular and the other, Nancy and Derrida, each in their own, non-fraternal way, help to rethink the ground on which another thinking of the political may begin.
